ABOUT US
The Laboratory for Radiological
Informatics (LRI) is part of the Department of Radiology
at the University of California, San Francisco School of
Medicine.
The LRI, located on the first floor of the University Library, houses the clinical
picture archiving and communication system (PACS) image cache, long-term optical
archive, database and web server. The facility is also the site for research in
medical image informatics. Equipment includes long-term storage devices with
heterogeneous high-capacity media, ATM, Gigabit and high-speed network
communication hubs, developmental workstations and 3D rendering engines. More
than 12 people work within the lab and they are involved in both clinical and
research activities. Research projects include the implementation of a new
hierarchical storage scheme, enhancement of a digital teaching file, development
of a meta-medical archive connecting PACS at multiple institutions, and image
security and compression methods.
